Among Us is multiplayer social deduction game Among Us was created and distributed in the United States. The party game Mafia and the science fiction horror film The Thing were both inspirations for the game. The game was published for iOS and Android devices in June 2018 and on Windows later that year in November, allowing for cross-platform play. In December 2020, the game was released on the Nintendo Switch, followed by December 2021 on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. While the game gained little widespread notice when it was first introduced in 2018, it exploded in popularity in 2020 as a result of several well-known Twitch streams and YouTubers playing it. Schell Games will release a separate VR version of the game, Among Us VR, for Quest 2, SteamVR, and PlayStation VR.
Among Us takes place in a space-themed scenario, with players dressed as colorful armless cartoon astronauts; nevertheless, three other maps have been added in the years following the introduction of "The Skeld" spaceship: the skyscraper "MIRA HQ," the planetary station "Polus," and "The Airship" (based on Infiltrating the Airship from the Henry Stickmin series, also developed by Innersloth). Each player chooses one of two roles—most are Crewmates, while a few are Impostors—and their look does not change. The Crewmates' aim is to find and remove the Impostors while fulfilling tasks throughout the map; the Impostors' goal is to secretly undermine the mission either by murdering the Crewmates before they accomplish all of their assignments or by causing an unresolvable calamity.
